HAVRE CHRISTIAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HANDBOOK

IV. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. Student Insurance:

Christian Educators Insurance Trust (CEIT) provides School time Accident Insurance of $500 Primary insurance coverage. Charges for care in excess of the primary coverage of $500 is coordinated with the parents insurance. There is a $25,000 Accidental Medical Expense Limit.

B. Lunches

Parents are expected to provide healthful meals for their student’s lunch. A microwave oven is available for students to use to heat items that must be heated to be eaten.

C. Attendance Policy:

Regular and prompt attendance at all school appointments is expected of every student. According to the Montana State laws, illness or death in the immediate family is the only valid excuse for student absence. Parents should make proper arrangements with the principal and teacher before keeping a child out of school for any other reason. Medical appointments should be taken care of outside of school hours whenever possible.

D. Punctuality:

Students should arrive at school not more than ten minutes before classes begin. Students should leave the building and school grounds as soon as they are dismissed at the close of the day. Any exceptions should be arranged with the principal.

E. Telephone:

Teachers and students should not be called during school hours except in an emergency. Students having to make necessary calls to parents from the school should make arrangements with the teacher.

F. Emergencies:

In case of a serious emergency, such as accident or illness, the school will attempt to contact the parent/guardian. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached and in the judgment of the teacher or principal immediate medical attention is needed, the school will summon medical aid or take the student to receive medical aid.

G. Disaster policy:

In the event that a disaster occurs while students are on the school premises, the school will implement the following emergency procedures:

  1. Try to contact the parent/guardian
  2. In the event that a parent/guardian is unable to take custody of the student, and the school structure is undamaged and secure, the school personnel will provide for the child’s food, shelter, and safety until further arrangements can be made with the parent/guardian.
  3. In the event that the school structure is damaged and insecure, the school personnel will make every attempt to transport the child to safety and provide for the child’s needs.

In the event that a disaster occurs while the student is in school custody but not on the school premises, the school personnel will implement the following emergency procedures:

  1. Try to contact the parent/guardian.
  2. Make every attempt to provide for the child’s safety and needs.

H. Visitors

Parents and school board members may visit the school at any time. Guests should register with the principal upon arrival. No student should bring relatives or friends to school without prior permission of the teacher or principal. Guests are expected to observe school regulations and policies.

I. Progress reports:

The teacher will issue a progress report at least once every nine weeks or four times a school year.

J. Parent/Guardian – teacher communication:

Parent/guardian – teacher conferences are held at the end of each of the first and third reporting periods. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to communicate with the teacher at any time regarding their student’s progress. If a problem develops, the parent/guardian should first talk with the teacher involved. After talking with the teacher, a parent/guardian may request to bring the principal or school board chairperson into the discussion. If the problem is not resolved, the parent/guardian may ask the school board chairperson to consider the problem at the board level.

K. Field Trips:

Enriched instructional opportunities are occasionally provided through well-planned field trips. Adequate supervision is supplied and all care is taken to ensure the safe conduct and care of each student on each trip. Special forms for permission for such activities must be obtained before each off-campus event. Parent/guardians will be notified as soon as possible concerning field trips. Students who do not participate in the field trips are the responsibility of their parents/guardians and will be counted absent.
